Why Cooking?

I have been cooking since I was in college. I find it a fun activity to do with friends and family. There is a tradition of breaking bread throughout history. I enjoy continuing that tradition with the people around me. Plus it is a hobby with a great reward at the end- a good meal.

Living in Italy, I learned to cook with simple ingredients to produce wondrous meals. Taking the basics and bringing them together to form something worth eating was a new experience for me. Fresh veggies and herbs can make all the difference in a recipe.

After returning from Italy, I settled in Milwaukee to get my Master’s degree. Here I learned to cook other local foods. Using locally grown produce I tried my hand at Asian foods, desserts, and anything out-of-the-ordinary that I could get my hands on. It was a great time of experimenting in the kitchen. During this time, I learned how to make sushi, thai peanut sauces, and a good limoncello.

Now, I have some favorites that I still like to create from time to time and most of those are featured here. I still love to experiment with new recipes, and I will post the successful one here as well. Please enjoy our online cookbook and know this space is for all of us. I would love to hear if you have the time to make one or two of these.  Please remember to post a comment or tell me what you think at school. And best of all, cooking is a great activity to do with your children. So go ahead, stir, smell and savor!
