Student Homework:
Students will receive homework most days. I will give class time to complete assignments so some nights students my not have much more then reading. Assignments might come from the text book, a separate reading assignment or a class project. Students’ success will be higher when they keep up on daily assignments and are prepared for class.
Late Work:
Late work and assignments will be accepted but with a penalty. Non-project assignments that are not compleated & turned in when asked will recieve a 50%. It is the student’s responsibility to show me late assignments. I will ask for assignments only on their due dates. For project based assignments a student’s score goes down one letter grade each day it is late. The maximum is 5 days and after that it will be an automatic F when turned in, otherwise it will be a zero.
Absences:
Students are responsible for all work that is missed due to absences. Students should be able to keep up with class by using this website, the portal, and our Moodle. Grace periods will be given depending on how long the student is absence. I will use the USM handbook in regards to absences that may be caused by vacations.
Tips to a quick recovery…
1. The most important one is to have a study partner that you trust. Ask them what you missed, what homework was assigned, and if you can see their notes.
2. Check the e-Classroom! The e-Classroom is a huge resource that will list the assignment and what you need to complete it.
3. Don’t accumulate missing assignments, that way if you have an absence you will only have to make up that work and no more.
Extra Credit:
Students will have opportunities to earn extra credit. All extra credit options are offered by the teacher periodically. It is advised that students take those opportunities. No extra credit can be earned if a student has a zero or missing assignment in the grade book and/or if a student has decided to cheat on an assignment, quiz, or test. If the student has already completed extra credit and then subsequently fails to turn in work their extra credit will not help until they fix the missing assignment.
Quiz & Tests
I use quizzes and test to give me a sense of where the students are at. These snap shots are important to show me student understanding and effort they are putting into learning the historical concepts. I offer no retake possibilities. Students and parents should be aware of this policy. It is very important for you to come to class prepared and ready to take the assessments.
Scoring System
I use a standard grading scale that is approved and found in the University School Handbook. I use a point based grading system. This means I don’t brake down my grades into categories. example: tests 20% homework 35% ect. Each assignment has a point value assigned to it. The student is trying to get as many points as they can on each assignment building to a final total that will determine their grade.
Exception: Participation points are totaled at the end of the quarter and can effect about 30% of the students grades. If students want to know how they are doing on these they can ask me and I will be glad to give them a total picture of their grade.
